Welcome to the website of Alex Mackey! I started out in programming using the Amiga with a hobbyist program called Amos. Around 1995 I then started developing a number of small sites with HTML and Javascript.
I then studied Business Computing with Psychology graduating with 1st class honours. During my time at university I worked for a small consultancy developing applications with ASP and VB6. After this position I then moving into .net/sql server (from v1.0 and SQL 6.5) where I have remained for the last 7 or so years. In total I have over 9 years commercial development experience.
Most recently I worked as lead developer on a project to create a hospital administration system for Moorfields eye hospital in Dubai. I have worked on other large scale projects developing a departmental diabetes system for Walsgrave hospital and a number of other clients. I have been lucky enough to work around the world in Ireland, United Arab Emirates and America.
In the last 6 months I founded a .net user group (Devevening.co.uk) which grew from 6 to 15 regular attendees in just 3 months with 26 on the mailing list. I enjoy learning about technology and teaching others. I have recently joined Woking Toastmasters club to improve my speaking abilities and in the past have presented at a number of conferences and my own user group. Additionally
part of my job involves working with clients and training end users.
Technology wise I am currently interested at MVC (this website is my first play with it!), Silverlight and struggling with F#.
Outside of programming I enjoy running, Wing Chun and Beer and sometimes all at once.
